Hi!  I want to sign myself and my mothers dogs up for a trial in February, but I just want to make sure I do this correctly.  We are both going to a trial next weekend and my Moms dog is 1 leg away from her novice title.

So, I should still just sign her up for novice and then notify them of the move up?  Do we let them know via email as soon as she qualifies or just the day of at the trial?

(This is all, of course, assuming she gets her last leg.  I'm being optimistic!)

Thanks!!

Hi Heather! You can only sign a dog up for the level they are eligible for (so, Novice). For each trial, you’d need to check that trials premium for their move-up policy. If it isn’t listed (which it should be, as that’s a required item for premiums...), you’ll need to email the trial Secretary to ask. Move-up policies can vary from event to event / club to club!

Yes.   You always enter a trial at the level that the dog is currently competing in.   You cannot enter a level that you are not eligible to enter yet...aka...you can't enter Open if you haven't earned your Novice title.   The premium will state if same day move ups are allowed but most clubs allow them.   Notify the secretary as soon as possible if you earn your title before a trial and ask to be moved up.   If you earn your title at a trial notify the secretary and you will be moved up for the remaining trials in that event given the club allows same day move ups.

Thank you all for the fast reply.  I will get her signed up right away.  We are having a lot of fun doing barn hunt as a family 😊
